I was born and raised in Sweden, so my story is like that of many Americans: I am an immigrant working hard to live my American dream. My hometown is a university city just outside of Stockholm, Sweden, where my dad taught law school and my mom was a teacher. One advantage of being an immigrant is I have firsthand experience of both Swedish and American education systems and can recognize flaws and successes in each.
As a child, I struggled at school in Sweden; I did not begin to enjoy learning until my grandmother, a retired teacher, began helping me with spelling, English, and German. Her dedication during my early years provided the foundation I needed to graduate high school and attend one of Sweden's top universities. I earned a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology.
