Frida Brunzell
for PUSD

  Trustee Area B

Dedication with a Difference

I am Frida Brunzell and I am running for PUSD Board of Education Trustee Area B. I am the proud parent of three PUSD students, I am a dedicated volunteer and student advocate, and, with the right leadership, I am optimistic about the future of our school community.

I am the current PTA President for Palomar Council, overseeing all PTAs in PUSD. I have served on many PTA boards, on a foundation board, and also on several of the district’s committees such as the Community Advisory Committee for Special Education, and the English Learner Committee.

I am a fierce advocate for children, having spoken out on issues at all levels - individual school, district, county and state, on issues from the need to improve reading curriculums, to making parking lots safer, and increased funding for education.

I am passionate about ensuring that every child gets a high-quality education and I embrace PTA’s values, which focus on advocacy for all children, collaboration, ensuring diversity, respect, and accountability.
My priorities as a school board trustee will be:

I) Literacy for All
One in four students in PUSD is not proficient in reading. Reading skills are crucial for all academic success and everyday life. Every student deserves the opportunity to read well and enjoy reading.

I will also continue to advocate for children with learning differences by ensuring early identification and evidence-based programs are well integrated into our schools.

II) Mental Health & Bullying
We all know transitioning from isolation during the pandemic to life on campus has led to increased mental health challenges.  I will work to ensure all students who need support have access to adequate mental health support. Doing so will set more students on a path to success, avoiding pitfalls to anxiety, academic failure and worse.

I will work to implement a strong response to bullying. The district needs a better plan that promotes easy and safe reporting, communicates with the victim’s family, and provides escalating consequences for repeat offenses. We also need to improve training for teachers and staff in recognizing bullying when it occurs in the classroom.

III) Financial Priorities and Accountability
PUSD spent nearly $42 million this school year on litigation alone. I will work to ensure accountability to taxpayers to make sure our education funds are used in the most effective way possible. These funds should be reallocated toward smaller class sizes and enhanced curriculum. Our tax money should go towards education, not lawsuits.
